Click on the numbers above to learn more about the ways we give thanks during Mass.
We thank God for the gift of Jesus, his dying to save us,
and the new life he gives us. In bread and wine Jesus becomes real for us. It is special food for the friends of Jesus.
There are seven key moments in this part of the Mass. The following names these moments and provides a brief explanation of each.
Prayer Over the Offerings
The Priest prays a prayer of blessing over the gifts of bread and wine
Eucharistic Prayer
This is the Church’s great prayer of praise and thanksgiving to God.
Communion Rite
The Rite of Communion is the culmination of the Liturgy of the Eucharist.
The Lord’s Prayer
This is the prayer that Jesus taught us. We say it together to praise God for all that we have been given
Rite of Peace
The Sign of Peace is a sign of our unity as the Body of Christ
Fraction Rite
The Lamb of God echoes the scriptural image of Christ as the Passover lamb.
Communion
At Communion we receive the One who makes us one.
